The WYEP Summer Music Festival. Great show. Threat of a thunderstorm delayed Valerie June set for a long time. There were rumors that Sidney Crosby was there at the show to see Sam Roberts.

A momentary distraction at the start of Hitchock's set led him to begin his show with covers of Jimi Hendrix' "Are You Experienced?" and Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco" and to declare that the '60s were still going on, he was the same 16-year-old he was in 1969, and that the current year was actually "1960-44." His choice of old material was terrific: "Swirling," "She Doesn't Exist," and "Queen Elvis," particularly. And the songs from his latest album Spooked were fine additions to the Hitchcock canon. Echo & The Bunnymen

Mercury Lounge, New York, NY....... This wasn't quite as good of a show as the epic time I saw them in 1988 , but it was a damn good performance. They did two consecutive nights at the Mercury Lounge with a slightly different setlist each night, but I'm glad I caught them on the first of the pair.  They hadn't quite released their album of new material (it would come out two months later), their first with singer Ian McCulloch in a decade. And the new material sounded good, even if it wasn't yet familiar to those of us in attendance--with the exception of the new single "I Want to Be There (When You Come)," which we were playing at WHTG.
