Winterpills

Schenley Plaza, Pittsburgh, PA..... Part of WYEP's Final Fridays concert series. The Northampton, Massechusetts indie rock band Winterpills (or as a preview of this show in the local newspaper called them, a "chamber pop band") released their self-titled debut album in 2005 and I loved it. What a great sound.  And then I did a double-take looking at the album credits. The female singer in the group was Flora Reed, who was also a publicist at Signature Sounds Records, the Winterpills' record label. I received email on the regular from Flora promoting artists on the label especially when they had live shows in the Pittsburgh area. That was pretty cool. The band came by WYEP for our grand opening festivities of our Community Broadcast Center in early February 2006, and then we booked them a few albums later to do a late summer concert with us. Dar Williams

Google Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA   A fundraiser for WYEP, held in Google's auditorium.    From a promotional email about the event: "We're pleased to welcome Dar Williams back to Pittsburgh for an intimate performance in Google Pittsburgh's unique performance space. This exclusive fundraiser for 91.3fm WYEP includes an open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres featuring local and organic fare.W e'll be serving up delicious bites designed by the Head Chef at Google including dishes such as Yellowfin Tuna Tartare with Wasabi Aioli on a Sliced English Cucumber, Roasted Pear & Stilton Flatbread with Caramelized Onions and Black Sesame Chicken with Ginger Soy.
