Three Rivers Arts Festival, Downtown, Pittsburgh, PA.....

This was during a period when Point State Park was being renovated, so the festival had to create a new space by blocking off Stanwix Street and setting up shop there.

My wife and 7 month-old daughter went to the show and the kid was very interested in the music as well as the busy surroundings. I didn't get any pics of the performance since that's what happens when you have little one with you (although you can see the top of the stage in the shot below).

Benedum Center, Pittsburgh, PA..... With a Morrissey concert, one always wonders whether it will take place at all--given Morrissey's well-documented history of shows cancelled at the last minute. So it was concerning when several recent of his concerts had to be scrapped due to credible death threats on the former Smiths frontman. But, it turned out not to be a concern and the show went on as scheduled. Morrissey was in fine voice but I had some issues with the setlist. Towards the end of the main set, I thought it's got to be bangers all the way down, but I was disappointed. Some deeper cuts, but more problematically, midtempo songs that didn't get the energy up except for the hardest-core of Moz-heads. There were a lot of people heading to the exits early, and my daughter (first time seeing him live) said to me at one point, "The music for each song sounds good but once he starts singing, they all sound the same." Nickel Creek, Jonny Lang, Howie Day

Fox Theater, Boulder, CO..... This was a showcase performance for a radio convention. I think Nickel Creek was still trying to break through with their 2002 album This Side .  It was cool to see Jonny Lang playing the blues. Howie Day didn't leave much of an impression.    There was a bar right next to the Fox Theater called Tulagi, and for these radio convention showcase performances, conference attendees could go back and forth between venue to see the artists performing at each with staggered set times.
