Leona Naess, Damien Rice

Tulagi, Boulder, CO.....

Tulagi was a bar right next to the Fox Theater, and for these radio convention showcase performances, conference attendees could go back and forth between venue to see the artists performing at each with staggered set times. (Here's who was playing at the Fox.)

Damien Rice was intense as per his usual. My primary memory of the set was watching backup singer Lisa Hannigan fold herself up at the back of the stage when she wasn't singing on a song. She sat down with her legs folded underneath her and folded her hands together in a very memorable manner.

Even though Rice's O album was released the previous year, he was still trying to break through to a higher level in the U.S. While the eventually went gold on these shores, I think it took until the following year to make it to a broader audience.

I loved Naess' Comatised album from 2000, but I was a little underwhelmed by her latest and self-titled album. But it was good to see her nonetheless.
