Moby
Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY.....
A very memorable concert. The HBO music series Reverb was taping the concert and their extra lights set off the venue fire alarms. At first, we all thought the strobe lights flashing around the stage were just part of the show, if not well synched to the beat. But then a guy walked on stage and pow-wowed with Moby and then announced that we had to clear the room and head outside. The fire department checked everything out and the audience was let back in after a bit of a wait on the sidewalk, but I'd swear the crowd was larger and that some of the people re-entering the venue had walked up during the fire-department intermission.
Oh, and the music was terrific. Songs performed included "Honey," "South Side," "Natural Blues, " "Bodyrock," "Go!," "Find My Baby," and "Feeling So Real."
This show was about a half-dozen days after Moby had performed at Woodstock '99 (on the "Emerging Artists Stage"). He performed late Friday night of the festival and the fires were set on Sunday night, but a fire alarm soon afterwards must have given Moby pause. (Ironically, Moby had covered Springsteen's "I'm on Fire" at Woodstock 99.)
See part of the Reverb broadcast here. Moby's portion starts at :41:10.
