The Tibetan Freedom Concert was obviously a pretty massive show, not just in the number of artists performing but in the largeness of most of the acts. The day I went (out of the two days of the festival) had a great lineup and was absolutely jam-packed with people. I tried not to go to the bathrooms or to get food (though I ended up doing both) because the area one had to walk to get to those facilities seemed like a dangerously overcrowded choke point.

But it was a great day of music.

Schenley Plaza, Pittsburgh, PA.... It was the 15th annual WYEP Summer Music Festival.    Dr. Dog onstage  Dr. Dog had released their seventh album, Be the Void , a few months earlier, their fourth consecutive release to make the Billboard album chart. They frequently play in Pittsburgh, so it was great to be able to host them for the WYEP Summer Music Festival. (They had visited WYEP for a Live & Direct Session on 3/1/2012, so it was good to welcome them back.)  Great Lake Swimmers had done a Final Fridays show at Schenley Plaza in 2009, so they were returning to trodden ground after the release of their fifth album New Wild Everywhere .  And Sharon Van Etten had also just released her latest album  Tramp  (coincidentally, on the same day as Dr. Dog's latest), which was the first of three straight album's she would get onto the Billboard album chart. Tori Amos

State Theater, New Brunswick, NJ.... Before Tori's show (the second time I was seeing her live), my then-wife Christine and I were meeting my WHTG colleague Matt Pinfield, Atlantic Records' Tod Elmore, and a few others for dinner at a restaurant next to the State Theater. The hot topic at dinner was discussion about whether O.J. Simpson might be guilty of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson, which had taken place the previous Sunday. Someone at the dinner table mentioned they had heard on the radio earlier that O.J. was missing. Speculation was interrupted when Matt realized he had to head over to the theater to introduce Tori on stage. Tori and I, after the show Christine and I strolled over to the theater and saw the show, with Tori performing alone with her Bosendorfer on one side of the stage and a harpsichord facing the other direction. Point State Park, Pittsburgh, PA.... It was the opening night concert for the Three Rivers Arts Festival, and it was a beautiful evening in Pittsburgh (if overcast).
