This was an awesome show. The day before there was a big snow storm and snow was piled up everywhere. Evan Dando blew (he seemed like he was stoned), which was disappointing. But the rest of the bands were great. Each one only played about 30 mins and there was a rather lengthy break between each set, but all were terrific. I remember Richard Butler sitting on a bar stool in front of the mic with just one bandmate sitting next to him, playing acoustic guitar. The rumor was that it was Richard's brother, but unconfirmed (didn't look like him at all), but the dude was probably the most amazing guitarist I have ever seen live. Soup Dragons ended the night by playing a 10 minute version of "I'm Free" and everyone dancing in the aisles. (Btw, if you're reading this, you may have attended shows in the early-mid 90's on the Jersey Shore yourself--was anyone at the dive bar in Asbury (winter '95 or so) where Mike Peters, the lead singer of the Alarm, played a solo gig? May be the best show I've ever seen. He played until 2am and the place kicked him out because the cops were coming, so Mike says "everybody outside, I'll keep playing." So he goes outside and gets in the bed of somebody's pickup truck with his guitar and plays four or five more songs, finally wrapping up when it started to snow. Magical.)
